Start from load and environment
Tell us whether the part is cosmetic, structural, electrical, corrosion-exposed, heat-exposed or only a mounting component.
Choose aluminum, stainless steel, steel, galvanized, copper or brass with fabrication, finishing and quote risk in mind.
The RFQ should state the preferred material and acceptable substitutions when cost or lead time matters.
| Material | Best-fit uses | Quote notes |
|---|---|---|
| Aluminum 5052 | Enclosures, panels, brackets and formed parts | Good forming; common for powder coating and anodizing routes. |
| Aluminum 6061 | Machined or structural features | Less friendly for tight bends; confirm bend radius. |
| 304 Stainless Steel | Corrosion-resistant covers, brackets and equipment parts | Finish and burr control affect cosmetic result. |
| Cold Rolled Steel | Powder-coated brackets, chassis and frames | Cost-effective when coating is acceptable. |
| Galvanized Steel | Industrial panels and brackets | Welding and finish route should be reviewed. |
| Copper / Brass | Busbars, electrical panels and decorative components | Material cost and surface protection matter. |
A stronger material request separates confirmed engineering requirements from flexible commercial choices.
Tell us whether the part is cosmetic, structural, electrical, corrosion-exposed, heat-exposed or only a mounting component.
Thickness, bend radius, hole distance, weld length and flatness expectations can make one alloy easier than another.
Powder coating, anodizing, passivation, brushing and plating each need different material and masking assumptions.
Material alternatives help reduce lead time and cost, but only when function, finish and certification needs are clear.
| Buyer condition | Useful instruction |
|---|---|
| Exact alloy required | State the grade, thickness, temper and certificate requirement in the RFQ. |
| Cost-sensitive enclosure | Allow 5052 aluminum or cold rolled steel alternatives when finish and weight can change. |
| Corrosion exposure | Describe indoor, outdoor, humidity, chemical or food-contact context before choosing stainless or coating. |
| Tight bending | Share bend radius and flange dimensions so the reviewer can flag cracking or tooling risk. |
| Cosmetic surface | Mark visible faces, grain direction, color, texture and acceptable handling marks. |
The fastest material review includes grade, thickness, finish, quantity, certificate needs and whether substitutes are allowed.
Best for enclosures, panels and lightweight brackets where forming and finish need review.
Best for corrosion-resistant covers, brackets and assemblies where burr control and certificate needs matter.
